Functional Description
5453-279 is a MicroNet TMR Chassis developed by Woodward. The TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) Main chassis serves as a central hub for various critical elements, including kernel power supplies, central processing units (CPUs), and up to twelve I/O Modules. The expansion capabilities and I/O sharing mechanisms vary based on the processors used, with TMR5200 processors enabling shared I/O through RTN networks, while TMR040 processors establish dedicated I/O connections using transceivers and cables. These configurations collectively contribute to the robustness and adaptability of TMR systems, catering to various operational requirements.
Features
Irrespective of whether they incorporate the TMR5200 processor or the TMR040 processor. It's important to note that the type of kernel power supply modules used must be compatible with the specific CPU being utilized for seamless integration.
The TMR Main chassis provides dedicated slots for kernel power supplies, which are essential for providing the necessary power to the system's components. Additionally, the chassis accommodates the installation of CPUs, which serve as the brains of the system, executing computations and managing various tasks critical to the TMR system's functionality.
Notably, the TMR Main chassis also offers slots for up to twelve I/O Modules. These modules play a vital role in handling input and output operations, facilitating communication between the TMR system and external devices, sensors, and interfaces. The integration of I/O Modules is a key factor in ensuring the system's ability to interact with its environment effectively.
A noteworthy consideration is that the TMR system's expansion capabilities are dependent on the type of processors being used. With TMR5200 processors, the system can be expanded to include up to three I/O chassis using RTN (Redundant Trunk Network) networks. This expansion allows each CPU to access the I/O resources, resulting in I/O modules located in the expansion chassis being treated as Shared I/O.
In contrast, when TMR040 processors are employed, the approach to expanding the system's I/O capabilities differs. In this scenario, Transceiver modules and copper or fiber cables are utilized to establish connections between multiple chassis. This setup accommodates additional system I/O requirements. However, the key distinction is that with the TMR040 processors, the I/O is dedicated to a specific CPU, ensuring that each CPU has exclusive access to its assigned I/O resources.
